Week 5

  1. The Atlanta Braves have hit the grand total of five home runs this season, three of which have been hit by Freddie Freeman. What might be even more shocking is that they have scored more runs than the New York Yankees.
  1. Taijuan Walker has allowed only three walks in 25 IP.
  1. Carlos Correa has now gone 21 consecutive games without hitting a home run.
  1. The reported demise of Victor Martinez might have been premature. Over the past ten games he’s gone 15-for-38 with three homers and nine RBI.
  1. “Good morning, Mr. Phelps. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to work in a setup role in the Marlins bullpen and be next-in-line for saves should A.J. Ramos falter.”
  1. Trevor Plouffe is currently on a rehab assignment and looks to be ready to return to the active roster on Tuesday. The fight for at-bats in the Twins outfield will be resuming.
  1. Hector Rondon is off to an amazing start as the Cubs closer. In 7 IP he’s allowed only two hits, no walks, no runs, and has 12 strikeouts. Unfortunately, for his owners, he only has four saves thanks to the high-flying Cub offense.
  1. The hottest Diaz on the planet is not Cameron.
  1. A.J. Reed is 10-for-35 with three homers, 10 RBI, and eight walks in his past ten games. Over the same time span, Tyler White is 4-for-38 with one homer, 3 RBI, and two walks. The clock is ticking……
  1. At some point down the road, will MLB teams have the right to void existing player contracts when a player is caught and suspended for using a banned substance?
  1. If one is looking at short-term save opportunities, the O’s Brad Brach is a sweet choice.
  1. Chase Utley is currently hitting at the top of the Dodgers lineup. He’s amassed 13 runs scored, good for ninth overall at second base. It might be time to cut to the chase.
  1. Manny Margot is currently blocked by only Jon Jay in his quest for a lineup spot in San Diego.
  1. An eighty per cent success rate is considered the bar for stolen base attempts. There are currently only three teams stealing at that clip, the Boston Red Sox, Kansas City Royals, and the Toronto Blue Jays. The Angels currently lead the pack in futility by stealing at a 36.4 per cent clip.
  1. Junior Guerra is anything but. Congratulations are in order, as the Brewers have announced he will be getting the call and his first MLB start this coming Tuesday at the ripe old age of 31.

  1. Hello Tim, What is the best case scenario with Diaz? He has been my filler as a Trea Turner owner. With Johny P looming should I take what I can get now for him? Or do you think he can continue to provide enough offense to possibly get some at bats from 2nd or elsewhere, maintaining value for much of the season.
