Catchers

Below are our rankings of catchers entering the 2017 season.  The list was last updated on January 3, 2017.

The Elite

1.

Jonathan Lucroy (Tex) A full season in Texas will see him approach thirty homers We have a new #1 catcher in the game.

2.

Buster Posey (SF) Just not enough power to be the “king of the hill” at catcher.

The Solid Second Tier

3.

Gary Sanchez (NYY) No, he won’t hit 40+ homers but he could still be the home run leader come September.

4.

Willson Contreras (CHC) Star status is right around the corner.

5.

Evan Gattis (Hou) How many catchers hit 30 homers in 2016?

7.

Yasmani Grandal (LAD) The power is very real as is the BA.

8.

Salvador Perez (KC) The last time he finished with an OBP over .300 was 2013. His “walk up” song for 2017 is the Lou Reed classic “Take a Walk on the Wild Side.”

10.

Matt Wieters (FA) Still searching for a place to call home. Could it be a brave new world in Atlanta?

20.

Travis d’Arnaud (NYM) If he could only stay healthy…..he’d be mediocre.
