On Hall of Fame weekend, we have listed several players on most waiver wires who could be Hall of Famers…er, well, maybe not that good.
Anyway, we are deep into the season and it’s now are never to make the moves.
Enjoy the list and please click on the baseball card to visit our partner amazon.com to explore additional information on each player.
Tyler Beede, SP, SF (CBS: 14% owned)
In his past three starts, Beede has allowed a total of four earned runs. He’s allowed but one free pass. Friday night he held the Mets off the board over eight strong innings, allowing only a scant three hits. The starter that many envisioned when the Giants made him a First Round selection in 2014, looks to have finally arrived.
Ryan Borucki, SP, TOR (CBS: 6% owned)
Sidelined by left elbow inflammation, the 25-year-old southpaw has finally completed his rehab assignment and is ready to roll. In 17 starts for the Jays in 2018, he posted a solid 3.87 ERA and has Cleveland and Tampa Bay on the schedule in a two-start week. For those playing in AL-only formats or looking to stream starting pitching, give him a look.
Garrett Cooper, MIA (CBS: 52% owned)
“Coop” had one amazing June. He mashed four homers, drove in 16 runs and hit to the tune of a .372 BA. For those that had their doubts, and rightfully so, he’s followed up the amazing June with four homers, 10 RBI, and a solid .294 BA in July. All this kid does is hit.
Travis d’Arnaud, 1B/C, TAM (CBS: 31% owned)
When he’s hot, he’s definitely been hot. Right now, he’s on fire. The second inning Grand Slam today illustrates that to a “t”.
Isan Diaz, 2B, MIA (CBS: 10% owned)
We mentioned that Diaz could be on the cusp of a call-up in Week 10. It’s now Week 17 and he’s still a Baby Cake. The 23-year-old has now accumulated 24 homers and 64 RBI with a .980 OPS down on the farm. It’s time for the Marlins to move on from Starlin Castro and his .636 OPS and give their future at second base a good look.
Leury Garcia, OF, CWS (CBS: 24% owned)
As a leadoff bat, he’s currently sporting the 14’th best BA at his position. He’s currently ninth in runs scored. He has five homers and with today’s two thefts, now has ten on the season. Why is he owned in only 24% of the Leagues at CBS?
Adam Haseley, OF, PHI (CBS: 4% owned)
We mentioned him back in Week 11 as a potential target once he returns from the IL. Well he has, and since the break is 7-for-25 with a pair of homers. Playing time could be a challenge, but I’ll roll the dice that he finds his way into more at-bats than Nick Williams until the return of the injured Jay Bruce.
Reynaldo Lopez, SP, CWS (CBS: 24% owned)
In his past two starts on the road against Tampa Bay and Oakland, Lopez has looked like the starter many of us envisioned heading into 2019. He has allowed only two earned runs while striking out 15 in 13 IP, lowering his ERA from 6.34 to 5.76. It’s only two starts, but waiting to see how he fares in his next start might be too late. Spend a buck or two now and hope the trend continues.
Manny Margot, OF, SD (CBS: 11% owned)
Remember when Manny Margot was a top-prospect and seemingly looking at a long run in center field for the Padres? It wasn’t all that long ago and of-late, Margot is reminding us of those days. In his past five games, he’s gone 10-for-20 with a homer, stolen base, and has scored six runs. It’s time to reinvest in Manny Margot.
Tyler Naquin, OF, CLE (CBS: 6% owned)
In the past week, Naquin has gone 8-for-20 with two homers and six RBI. In deeper Leagues it’s time to add him and take advantage of that hot streak.
Scott Oberg, RP, COL (CBS: 29% owned)
On July 16, Wade Davis imploded again. He allowed four runs, three earned, in taking the loss and driving his ERA north of six. Meanwhile, Scott Oberg is sporting a 1.35 ERA and while filling in for Davis has three saves. It’s just about time we saw Oberg get another opportunity or two to close out games for the Rox.
Jurickson Profar, OAK (CBS: 58% owned)
Four homers and seven RBI since the break should have him out of the doghouse in Oakland and finding his way into regular at-bats.
Dominic Smith, 1B/OF, NYM (CBS: 20% owned)
Rich mentioned his love for Dominic Smith in Week 15 and the need for the Mets to give their younger players a good look, and lo and behold that’s exactly what they’ve been doing. In his past four games, Smith has gone 5-for 14 with two homers and eight RBI. Producing at that level should guarantee plenty of future opportunities.
Luis Urias, 2B, SD (CBS: 42% owned)
In Week 10 we mentioned that it was only a matter of time until the Padres called up Urias, and that time has now arrived. The 19 homers, 50 RBI, and most importantly a .398 OBP illustrate that he’s more than ready to hold down the fort in the middle-infield with Fernando Tatis Jr. for the next ten years or so.
Ryan Yarbrough, SP/RP, TAM (CBS: 37% owned)
The “Yarbrough Man” has been on a roll. Since the middle-of-June he’s gone from following the “opener” to starting and over those six appearances has been lights out, allowing a total of three earned runs over 27 1/3 IP. In the process, he’s lowered his ERA from 5.59 to 3.93. It’s now or never time if you wish to acquire Yarbrough through the FAAB process.
Mike Yastrzemski, OF, SF (CBS: 5% owned)
In Week 9 we mentioned that “Yaz” might be best left for NL-only Leagues. It’s time to re-evaluate our position. Since the break, he has gone 12-for-38 with three homers and 10 RBI while playing every day. It’s time to find a home for him in Mixed Leagues.
