The list is a little on the short side this week, but at least Keon Broxton didn’t make it.  He had a good week but was moved back to Triple-A so our senior writer Tim McLeod, and the master of the waiver wire, and oh yeah, a HUGE Keon Broxton fan, couldn’t put him on the list.  But trust me, if he would have been up, he would have been on the list.  And yes…I would have been mocking him…  So, confrontation…avoided…for now.

Sandy Alcantara, SP, MIA (CBS: 12% owned): The flame-throwing righty got the call for the Marlins this past week and in his MLB debut secured the victory by tossing five innings of three-hit one-run ball against the Mets. It wasn’t all good news, as the old bugaboo the free pass, is still a problem. Alcantara allowed five walks and was very fortunate to escape with minimal damage. The strikeout potential is intriguing, just be wary that the WHIP could take a beating.

Tim Beckham, SS/3B, BAL (CBS: 13% owned): In 2017, Beckham enjoyed a great season with 22 homers, 62 RBI, and a solid .278 BA. This year, in an injury-plagued season, he has but one homer in 103 at-bats. He’s finally off the DL and if one is looking to do some speculating, someone has to be ready to assume the shortstop role if/when Manny Machado moves on at the trade deadline.

Tyler Clippard, RP, TOR (CBS: 17% owned): Ryan Tepera hits the 10-day DL with right elbow inflammation, opening up an opportunity for Tyler Clippard in the ninth inning. We’ve seen limited success out of Clippard in the closer role in the past, but he’s currently got the job and that’s half the battle.

Brandon Drury, 2B/3B, NYY (CBS: 14% owned): The two-homer game on Friday against the Red Sox likely buys Greg Bird some time, but Brandon Drury has now been promoted and is now within shouting distance. Drury is currently best left for AL-only formats, but any further struggles by incumbent Bird could make Drury relevant in Mixed Leagues.

Michael Lorenzen, PH, CIN (CBS: 1% owned): Michael Lorenzen now has three homers in the past week, with his last two coming as a pinch hitter, and could start seeing at-bats as an outfielder. Shohei Ohtani isn’t the only pitcher that can show off his prowess with the bat.

Brad Miller, 1B/2B, MIL (CBS: 4% owned): The up-and-down season for Orlando Arcia continues, as they’ve shipped him off to Triple-A Colorado Springs…again. The Brew Crew is turning to Brad Miller to get the principal share of the at-bats, and he has already hit one homer and a couple of doubles. It speaks volumes as to how badly Milwaukee wants some offense out of the middle-infield that they’re willing to give Miller a shot at shortstop.

Mike Minor, SP, TEX (CBS: 32% owned): Minor has turned around a very poor season in his last three outings. He has allowed a total of three earned runs in those three starts, with all three being of the quality variety. It’s time to find a home for him in deeper formats.

Dereck Rodriguez, SP, SF (CBS: 16% owned): We mentioned him in Week 13, and since then he continues to boost his stock. Three-of-his-past-four starts have been quality starts, and in his last outing, he held the vaunted Arizona offense scoreless. The only thing that hasn’t significantly changed in the past several weeks is his ownership level.

Addison Russell, SS, CHC (CBS: 43% owned): It has been a tough year-and-a-half for the young Cubs shortstop, but if the past week is any indication, better days are ahead. In his past five games, he has gone 9-for-22 with a pair of homers and 10 RBI. That will get you out of the Maddon doghouse in a hurry.

Lou Trivino, RP, OAK (CBS: 9% owned): The 26-year-old righty is now firmly entrenched as the go-to guy in Oakland when incumbent Blake Treinen needs a day off. Trivino is now up to six wins, three saves, and nine holds on the season while sporting a 1.56 ERA. In Leagues that count holds he is being sorely overlooked.
