Hey Rich,
Thank you for your help last year as I grabbed hunter Harvey in the 2nd rd, along with judge in the 3rd. To recap, I’m in a 12 team points league, with 50 active and 100 man minor league roster. A HR is worth essential 11 pts, a strike out is 3 ( 1pt for out and 2pt for the k). Negative points for batter k’s, and walks/ER for pitchers.
I see your 25 man ranking for dynasty. It’s the 4tg rd and I’m up. I like Verdugo and Luis Ortiz, but Michael Chavis is still available… So is Max P., but since power rules, idk ( have Arnaud).
Who you like? Any other gems you like outside your top 25?
Ps. Thank you for Tyler Danish too!
Sorry…got to this too late, but crossing fingers that you selected Chavis
I did.
Is it a toss up for Ortiz or Vetdugo?
Do you have insight into the top int’l amateur signings? Adrian Rondon or De leon?
Looking for some more gems in 2nd /3rd rds of 2014 draft if you have time.
Thank you!
Hi Rich,
I think I know the answer already because of your ‘man crushes’, but if you could have just 2 out of the 4 who would you have?
Souza
Pearce
Calhoun
Tomas
Any particular reasons or a quick explanation? Standard head-to-head 5×5.
Thank you!
Guys like Holliday and Cuddyer will be around too. Not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks.
Souza and Calhoun. And yes…huge man crush
10 Team 6×6 roto extra categories are doubles and holds. Keep 8 and they take up the first 8 rounds. We start 4 OFs and 3 Utils, but no CI and no MI.
Giancarlo Stanton
Carlos Gomez
Adam Jones
Hanley Ramirez
Evan Longoria
Billy Hamilton
Joey Votto
Yu Darvish
Craig Kimbrel
Kenley Jansen
Jacob DeGrom
Can you wait until Friday? If so, we will cover on our podcast.
I hope you guys can give some insight on some players that are eligible at multiple positions that may be worth a pick at the back end of the draft. I plan on picking up the super versatile Mr. Alcantara, but I wanted your take on some other underrated players. Does a nice 1B/Catcher combo exist to be my one backup to Freeman/Perez? I’m in a 12 team dynasty league on CBS (I believe it is 5 starts before a player becomes eligible at that position). Thanks as always!
I’ve never studied this but will bring it as a topic on Friday’s podcast.
Would you rather Jung-Ho Kang or Trea Turner in a dynasty redraft?
Only if I’m competing this year otherwise, I’ll take Turner. You can argue that Kang will earn more than Turner over the next three years, but I believe the opportunity cost of passing on Turner for Kang is only worth this year.
Hope that helps.
one additional un related f/u when you have time….im the guy playing the power punt(HR/RBI) knowing my focus is on OBP,H,R,SB Would u trade Springer for Yellich?
I probably would even though Springer will walk a lot, he’s batting average will be low, making his OBP lower than Yelich. Yelich should score more runs and have more hits. SB will be less. So, yeah…I’m good with that.
Nice… thanks sir
Hi Rich! I have the #2 pick in our dynasty draft. I cant take Moncada (a stipulation in a trade I made wont allow it). I am competing this year. Castillo, Tomas, Rodon,(Urias, Schwarber, Swihart, Severino and A. Jackson are there as trade bait) are available. Who would you take? Love the advice!
Looking at Baez last year in 213AB in MLB he hit 9HR/5SB…If he gets 600AB that would have been 25HR/14SB…are those reasonable expectations if he gets 600AB?
No, because at 95 K’s in that same time period, that equates to 275 strikeouts over those same 600 AB and if he does that, all of that production will be done in the minor leagues.
The bottom line is that Baez has 25 plus HR potential and can add 15+ stolen bases with full playing time, but unless he works on his plate discipline, he’ll never get the playing time.
ugh…damn k’s lol…thanks for fast reply
Hey Rich,
Got a couple questions about trades. Threw them out in the FB group, got some varied responses. I’d like to have your thoughts.
League is a 6×5 Dynasty League. I feel that I can compete this year. 2016 is my year though. The draft picks are for any 2014 Rule 4 draftee, 2014-2015 J2 signee, Castillo, or Tomas. In both trades, I get Team B and give up Team A.
Trade #1
Team A
Wacha/Crick (My choice, which would you give up) + Hedges + K. Zimmer + J. Bell + H. Dozier
Team B
Hanley + Chris Carter + Starling
Trade #2
Team A
3rd overall pick + Aybar + M. Harvey + Lincecum + 32nd overall
Team B
11th overall + Andrus + Encarnacion + H. Bailey
Thanks Rich, and good luck with your fantasy teams in 2015!
Trade #1 – I would do that deal as Starling Marte is the best player by far. Give up Crick.
Trade #2 – I do deal the deal.
It’s Bubba Starling. Sorry for not being clear.
The trade turned into –
Wacha + Crick + Hedges + K. Zimmer + J. Bell + H. Dozier
For
Hanley + Carter + Bruce + Bubba Starling + D. Paulino
For Bruce, I still do it. Would have rather had Starling Marte.
Sadly, the team didn’t have Marte.
Also had to add in Hultzen
Got a question about 11th overall
Who would you take?
S. Souza
A. Blair
R. Lopez
Matz
Kang
Kolek
M. Taylor
G. Holmes
T. Turner
Nola
R. Iglesias
I’m leaning Souza or Kang, but would like your thoughts
Souza of course
Thought so. Out of the remaining few, when looking for upside, who would you take?
Hey Rich! I’m contending this yr in my 16 teamer. I’m on the clock (2nd rnd pick 12) and the general consensus seems to be to take a vet to help NOW, but can’t help wanting some of the prospects left on the board. I’m really high on Amed Rosario and Ozhaino Albies. What are your thoughts on these 2? Are they too valuable to pass up? I’ll still have 4 picks left in draft to round out bench. Thoughts?
Possible current depth help would be the likes of Homer Bailey or AJ pollack.
I’d rather have Bailey and Pollack if you are competing. Big fan of both Rosario and Albies though. Go with the vet here though
hey bud. quick question
allowed to keep 2 NA keepers, what are your thoughts?
gallo/bradley/bundy
thanks
Justin
sorry forgot to add this.
would you give up blackmon to get gallo?
I’d give up Blackman to get Gallo. I would keep Gallo and probably Bundy, but it’s close.
Hi Rich! Love the podcast! I have a quick question that I’ve been struggling to answer myself. In a standard 5×5 roto league draft I have the 6th pick. My keepers are Goldschmidt, Marte, Donaldson, Springer, Lester and Kluber. We have a 3 year contract rule on every player(Goldy, Marte and Donaldson will be FA after this year). After all keepers have been declared, I’m looking at a few players with my first pick. It looks like Kershaw, E5, Bautista, Felix Hernandez, Cano, Tulo, Adam Jones, Beltre, Hanley, Braun and Bumgarner will all be available. Kershaw is a no brainer, but where would the rest of the players rank if he isn’t on the board at that point? Jones scares me a little bit this year and I think he may regress. Thank you!
Hey, Rich. I think you correctly picked these guys as my 5 keepers in a 16 team HxH categories league where keepers are your first 5 draft picks: Goldschmidt, Arenado, Marte, Wainwright, and Tanaka. Now with Wainwright’s injury concerns I’m wondering if I should keep any of these guys over him: Kipnis, Javier Baez, or Wil Myers. Thanks for all your great work, and the awesome podcast! Hope you guys get the podcast award.
I think Waino is still the right guy here over the others. Core injuries are tricky and Wainwright is older. However, he’s a workout monster, and I would lean that way. That said, if you are risk adverse, which I get, it’s Myers.
Thanks, Rich! I gotta decide by next week, so hopefully there’s some good news out of camp.
What’s more likely? A) K. Calhoun scores 100 runs the next 2 seasons
B) N. Feliz holds the closers job the next 2 seasons
C) D. Bundy has some fantasy relevance in 2016 + 2017
Thanks, Joe(Great site!)
C – Bundy has some fantasy relevance; in fact, significant fantasy relevance.
Rich, I’m looking for a few more of your “favorites” outside of the top 100. I’m in a 16tm league (each team has 15 MiLB roster spots). I’ve listened to a few of your podcasts and all the usual names are gone…like Margot, Devers, Chavis, Wall. I know it’s tough to know who is available so any information is appreciated for your favorites deeper than these guys. Thank you.
Brett Phillips, Reynaldo Lopez, Aristides Aquino, Giovanny Urshella, Spencer Adams, and Yoan Lopez
Great, all are available. I appreciate it. Would you rank Barreto, Adrian Rondon, Jorge Mateo, Albies, or Orlando Arcia ahead of them?
If you own Howie Kendrick, do you pick darnell sweeney in dynasty late in case he gets hurt? Or is that a stretch? Thanks
I’ve had him queued up in every league thinking the same thing, but never pooled the trigger. It’s a stretch and Darnell is not a superstar, but there is something there. If you have room on a minor league roster…yeah, do it.
Hey Rich,
Can you rank the following in a dynasty re draft?
Iglecias
Urshela
Aquino
Newcombe
Sweeney
Fisher, Derek
Verdugo
Arcia
Depends on if you are rebuilding or not. Assuming you are
Fisher, Newecomb, Verudgo, Iglecias, Urshela, Arcia, Aquino, Sweeney
Actually, I wouldn’t call it a rebuild. I’ve got Trout, Rendon, Bradley and Seager, and finished in the middle of the pack. I’m looking to contend this year while not mortgaging my future.
I would put then Iglesis second after Margot.
Hey Rich!
I could use a little help here…
I’m picking again shortly in my 16 teamer (3 picks away) and I’m looking for the player with the highest upside from some of the more notable I feel will be available at that spot. Position doesn’t matter heavily to me. Maybe rank your top 5 from these? thanks!!
Reynaldo Lopez
Brandon Finnegan
Raisel Iglesias
Freeland
Trea Turner
Hoffman
Newcomb
Margot
Devers
Mazara
Barreto
Realmuto
Grant Holmes
Albies
Chavis
Ryan Rua
Amed Rosario
I think I’ve narrowed it to Margot, Mazara or Hoffman. How do u rank these or do you like someone better on this list? This is the 12th overall. I plan on contending his year
So, I took Hoffman with that pic. I’ve since traded a J Cole for another pick that could STILL get me Mazaro or Margo. I’m also now contemplating Iglesias, as I am contending this year. However I’m still shooting for upside ultimately.
Jose and Raisel? Jose is a marginal fantasy player and the Reds want to make Raisel and starter and he’ll start in the minors. It’s Margo for me as the upside is really high and at worse, will give you more value to move for a piece later in the summer.
Who is the better prospect Winker or N.Mazara
I was offered forrest wall and sano for swihart and mazara. Now I only have plawecki and michael mckenry at C if I do this but sano is pretty amazing that i have to do this right? Thank you
I’m a big fan of Wall, but I would not give up Swihart and Mazara for Sano and Wall.
I have the 8pick in our draft from these players . in what order would you take them
1 Jeff Hoffman
2. Sean Newcomb
3.Steven Matz
4.Luis Servino
5. Kyle Schwarber
6. Josh Bell
7. Jesse Winker
8. Nick Gordon
http://prospect361.com/prospects/2015-top-100-prospects/
Winker Bell Schwarber Gordon Hoffman
Hey Rich! In my 16 team dynasty, I feel I have a chance to contend this year, but was short on pitching. I had the 2nd overall this am and was hoping to take Rodon…he went first, however. Moncada and Tomas were the next best 2 on our board. I ended up trading away the 2nd overall and 23rd overall for Teheran, Rosenthal (Chapman was my only true closer…AMiller, Giles, Boxberger are my other RPs) and Henry Owens.
How’d I make out? Will I regret not taking Moncada in this scenario, or did I win this trade, in your opinion?
Thanks for any input!
You did well if you are contending this year.
Hi Rich, love your work, first time caller long time listener! What are your thoughts on Yoan Lopez. I’d like to take him in my rookie draft but I’m curious to where you think that may be?
Hey Alan,
I’ve not seen him play and don’t have much input yet into who he could become. The delivery looks smooth and I know he has a live fastball.
Rich
I love Cole too, but thought I might be able to get him in the draft. I think most are keeping 3-4 pitchers and will take a hitter with their first pick (round 9). Maybe zig while the others zag. Even so, it’s probably not worth the risk. I’m not too impressed with Gray. I don’t see a lot more upside with him. I’d almost rather have Wood and slot him at RP. I like Heyward too, especially if he’s right between Carpenter and Holliday. Too hard with so many good options.
Thanks for the advice.
Thanks Rich, I’d love to hear it, but my keepers lock in at midnight on Saturday. Agh! Here’s my thought process:
Reyes is risky but I see a large drop off after him and the other SS likely being kept that I’m willing to take on that risk if my MI can play SS. So that’s #7.
For #8
Oops, accidentally hit send. For #8 I’m thinking Dozier. In a points league I like his OBP ability. And from the info I’ve gathered, all of the top tier and most of the next tier 2B are being kept. I have the last draft pick and don’t expect Dozier to still be there at the turn, and I like him much better than the dropoff to Murphy, Walker, Zobrist etc.
Plus, by throwing back all 3 of my 3B, I would be happy to pick from who’s left of Longo, Santana, Carpenter, Zimmerman, Davis, and to a lesser extent Harrison, Machado and Sandoval.
I am confident I’ll be able to get value in the middle rounds for SP and OF options, and I’m active during the season on the waiver wire and through trades.
So Reyes and Dozier. Thoughts?
Chris in Wichcita
thank you man! we listen every week!
Oh man – could really use your help! We’re up in a 20 team minor league draft. Jeff Hoffman, Reynaldo Lopez and Toussaint are all on the table. Draft has gone hitter heavy, but Bradley, Jomar Reyes and Julian Leon are out there. Is it wise to take the 15th best hitter or the 3rd best pitcher in the 1st round?
I get it, but go with the pitcher. Either Hoffman or Lopez.
My twenty team keeper league has it’s draft coming up I would like to know how you would rank these players . we draft high school ,college and minor leaguers
1. moncada ss boston
2. andy Ibanez 2b cuba
3. hector olivera 2b cuba
4. yadier alvarez sp cuba
5. brady atkin sp ?
6. mike matuella sp college
7. kyle funkhouser sp college
8. Nathan Kirby sp college
9. carson fullmer sp college
10. walker buehler sp college
11. jeff Hoffman sp blue jays
12. luis servino sp nyy
13. kyle schwarber c cubs
14. sean newcomb sp angels
15. jesse winker of reds
16. matt olson 1b A’s
17. nomar mazara of rangers
18. josh bell of pirates
19. steven matz sp mets
20. Brandon Rodgers ss high school
21. daz Cameron of high school
22. Trenton clark of high school
23 nick Gordon ss twins
24. Daniel Robertson ss rays
25. Dalton pompey of bluejays
Thanks for your post and as you know, I respond to just about every one. But I can’t rank 25 players with a bunch of them still amateurs. Sorry.
Hello, I’ve recently found your website and love the content. Keep up the good work.
Can you please help me with my 8 keepers for 2015?
I’m in a 12-team, head-to-head points league (CBS standard scoring) with 30-man rosters (23 starters and 7 bench. 2C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, CI, MI, 5OF, UT, 5SP, 2RP, 2P)and 8 keepers at no cost. Pitchers seem to be highly valued and I expect most players to keep 3-4 pitchers.
I plan on Keeping Goldschmidt, Stanton, Abreu, Bautista, Cueto, and Strasburg.
Please help with the last 2 from:
Infielders: Reyes, Dozier, Carlos Santana, Longoria, Carpenter
Outfield: Holliday, Heyward, Billy Hamilton, Calhoun, Betts
Or go pitching heavy with Alex Wood, Gray, Cole
Thanks, Chris in Wichita
I will answer this on our Podcast on Sunday. Listen out for it.
Ok, I’m going Grerrit Cole for sure and I’m then torn between Heyward and Gray. In points league that use CBS standard, pitching is very valuable. That said, Heyward could be poised for a big, big season. Your call there.
Hi Rich,
Great job on the podcast! My only criticism is that – when you have a 3rd person on the podcast, his volume is not consistent with yours and Tim’s. Makes it hard to listen to.
12 team mixed keeper – C/1B/2B/3B/SS/3x OF/Util. 1450 Innings. 25 roster spots and 3 DL.
Must keep any 5 players to be slotted in rounds 1-5. Anyone else can be kept at a 3 round penalty. For example. Kyle Seager is drafted in the 15th rd. He can be kept the following year in the 12th and the 9th two years from now.
I’m keeping the following hitters; Lucroy, Miggy, Betts, Jose Reyes, K. Seager, Stanton, Polanco, Pompey, Pujols, Danny Santana.
My SP are Kershaw, Zimmerman, Arrieta, Carrasco, Shoemaker, Giolito
My closers are Kimbrel, Britton and Rodney.
Looking pretty good to repeat?
Besides, Danny Santana, I’m good with your team.
Hey Rich! Thanks so much for all you do. I can keep one of these four pitchers – Arrieta, Salazar, Ventura, or Paxton. Who would you keep? Thanks again!
Paxton, but I’m not completely confident.
Doing my first 15 team NFBC slow draft this year, and I’m in the 7th round, what is usually your opinion on picking players to fill positions first or if I see a top hitter or pitcher such as Blackmon or G. Cole still available, should I take that type of player first and wait on the C, 2B,SS, 3B?? So far I have Price and 2 RP, 2 OF, and Fielder….Basically what I’m asking are pitchers or hitters more important in this type of league in early rounds when you can’t trade or no FAs? Love the podcast!
Closers are really important and you need two that will have their jobs. Bats are also important and that’s usually where I go. I wait somewhat on pitching and load up late. Make sure you’ve got at least 10 extra starting pitchers on you bench with a few being prospects. Then, make sure you keep track of positions on your bench and that you have at least one, maybe two guys for each position as reserves. Just draft one extra catcher, a backup like David Ross that will get you 200 quality at-bats in case one of your catchers go down.
Jose Pirela
played 2nd base last year for Scranton/Wilkes Barre (Yankee organization) .
what are your thoughts on this kid ?
thanking you , in advance .
nothing ?
Sorry…I’ve seen him play. Second division or bench guy for me.
Hey Rich, I made a strong play this offseason to get 1st pic in my upcoming draft to get Moncada. I had been following his progress since last summer. Our draft starts Saturday morning and unless his deal is official he won’t be available to be drafted. Have you any word on if he will officially sign by Friday? Most stressful offseason of my life.
No idea, but I would think Monday is when he will be introduced. Sorry, I wish I had more news and a better prognostication.
We had our draft this past weekend and your site and podcasts were a great help to me.10 Team, AL only Dyn w/ 41 man rosters. after the draft, there are 105 prospects taken. I am a potential contender this year so I spent my first 3 picks on Samardzija (traded Cruz for #3 pick), Gattis and Miley. I got Hoffman but I just missed on B Zimmer and took Casey Gilaaspie, Nick Burdi and Ryan Brett. Did I get any gems?
Burdi has a chance to be a closer…nice pull. Gilaspie might have power but it’ll take him a while as he’s in the Rays org. Brett… some speed, nice hit tool, but he might profile as an extra bat. But, the Rays like guys like him Brett, so he could get some run.
Andrew Wilkins had 30 HRs in the minors last season with a .293 BA. He is blocked in Chicago with the White Sox by Abreu and LaRoche. Does he get traded? Any thoughts on him? Thank you.
From The Baseball Forecaster on Wilkins:
0-2-.140 in 43 AB at CHW. You like to see a big power bat with contact rates moving towards 80%. That means, once he’s established in the majors, he’ll more likely be a 30-HR, .270 guy than a 30-HR, .220 guy. The downside is that, at 26, his window to establish himself is small.
Gotta love a stat-driven argument. Wilkins is clearly a big strong kid and he already has a 30 HR stat line on his resume. I would like to see better bat speed and I do think he can be beat by lefties; although he was better in 2015. His blocked as you said and he doesn’t have age on his side. For now, he’s bench depth for the team. Does he get traded? I’m not sure there is a ton of support for him in the industry, but if he does and gets playing time, it might be a guy that I throw done a buck on him.
Would you do this trade in a dynasty league (9 x 9 Standard Cats), where I am hoping to make a run this year.
I trade:
Lucas Sims
He Trades:
Matt Shoemaker
4th AMAT (Will be about the 100th pick with all 2015 AMAT Draftees eligible)
Yes, if I’m making a run. Temper expectations though on Shoemaker.
Hey Rich,
I’m in the second year of a 15 team dynasty league. I came in 5th last year and I’m looking to compete this year.
What do you think of this trade?
I give: Ian Kennedy, a 2nd and 3rd round pick in this year’s draft
I get: James Shields and Kyle Lohse.
Thanks for the quick response!
Yeah, sometimes it comes across that you have personal experience watching prospects. I try to pick up on young players’ habits and tendencies, but you’ve got to watch A LOT of baseball to build that skillset.
Your answer makes the show even more interesting – you’re bringing a perspective that I can’t get anywhere else! Thanks!
As for the language – you handle it well. Sometimes the names sound funny, but who could possibly pronounce them all just by reading them? No one, that’s who.
Thanks again, Rich. Looking forward to hearing you boys all season long!
Brian
Just wanted to thank you and Tim for putting together your podcast. You two cover a lot of information and I enjoy getting both perspectives on any given issue. Sometimes it feels like cheating when you have such a good resource to draw from headed into the season!
I’m wondering what kinds of resources you use to round out your rankings? You don’t have to give away the best secrets, but are you inundated with baseball reporting via the Web or what?
Do you seek out team-specific blogs, use big sources (ESPN, CBS), or subscribe to any written publications?
I read online a ton, and you guys still come up with new information during the podcasts. Pretty impressive.
—
Also – I really appreciate the way you guys use language in your show. It’s nice to hear people who have a colorful view of English and all its terms and phrases. It’s very fun to listen to you. Weird compliment, but I noticed and wanted to say so.
Thanks for the kind feedback. People generally say we butcher the English language…LOL.
I actually don’t read any other publications as I don’t want it to cloud my scouting. I watch about 75 minor league games a year and talk to front office people and people in field constantly to get their opinions about players.
I honestly haven’t read a fantasy publication in years, but I still subscribe to BaseballHQ. I use them on our show for quick reference to shout out player values, etc… That said, Fangraphs has just as good of information and HQ is very expensive. From a prospect standpoint, Keith Law is the most skilled of the evaluators and Baseball America has the best network of industry people.
Hope that helps.
Rich
What do you think of Hector Olivera? He may get signed by Dodgers and play 3B I read. What projections do you have? I know he hit 313 his final year but MLB obviously tougher. Thanks!
I’ve only seen him play on TV and he looks like an accomplished hitter. He’s bulked up, as many Cuban emigres do during the signing dance. Seems solid and I think the contract will reflect that. 20 HR type of power with an average to above-average BA.
what are your thoughts on fielder in a 1 year league
just got offered chapman for him….should i pull the trigger?
cheers
I think he’ll hit 40+ home runs. I’m going to assume he’s healthy
I am in a keeper league, I have kept Giancarlo Stanton, Bryce Harper, Matt Harvey, Jose Fernandez, Kris Bryant, Gerrit Cole and George Springer.
I Have the first pick in the draft, our draft is 26 rounds long, my options for the first pick are Adam Wainwright, Jordan Zimmerman or Freddie Freeman, looking for suggestions on who to select.
Thank you
With Wainwright getting hurt he may have taken himself out of the running for the first pick. I’m still back and forth between Freeman and Zimmerman but leaning towards Zimmerman, any thoughts?
You’ve been a great help this offseason Rich, thank you very much
Hey Rich,
Thanks for all of the great work that you’re doing. It’s a great site and a great show. Here’s my question. 2nd year of a 15 team dynasty league with 30-20-5 roster (I came in 5th last year.
I was offered this trade:
I give: Ian Kennedy, a 2nd round and a 3rd round pick
I get: James Shields and Kyle Lohse.
What do you think?
I’m waffling as I don’t know how high the second round pick is. A top 20 pick is still very valuable. Shields is got a year or two left before he sees his downside. Petco will help but don’t be surprised if his better days are behind him.
I’d say yes, but please tell me your good at picking prospects late in the draft…
Hi, thanks for a great show!
Keeper question
16 team, H2H, standard 5×5 roto scoring, but only 9 active hitters, 6SP and 3RP active. Keep 3, no penalties and can keep them for as long as I want.
Which three of the following should I keep?
Jose Bautista (no brainer)
Prince Fielder
Billy Hamilton
Nelson Cruz
Dee Gordon
Max Scherzer
Aroldis Chapman
Prince and Scherzer for me.
Thanks, I think you are right especially when we get the 40HR from Prince you guys betted on and another awsome year from Scherzer.
Dynasty league startup underway…
I drafted prospects knowing they will have more trade value in the coming months than that 33yr old 2B “Hill” that may be able to provide some value in deep leagues?
Guys like Hoffman, Mazara, etc…who just need a little more success for mainstream to put on the line light.
I guess asking my question would help.
What do you think of the strategy to draft with pure value, trade value, in mind over building the remainder of a team in a dynasty startup?
I never believe in that in any fantasy format and in thinking about it, particularly in a Dynasty League format. I play in four and two place a higher value on major league players and two put more value on minor league players. It’s hard to know in a startup, what fingerprint your league will have and what players will be valued the most, and what will not.
just my two cents.
greetings old buddy! got a deal for trout on the table
my keeper league with my buddies, 8 teamer with 14 keepers…
i would be getting trout and giving up abreu rendon cano and bumgarner..do you like that deal? i think i can afford it
here are my keepers (i think)
abreu , buatista , cano , rendon , fielder , frazier, marte , reyes , yelich , betts , bumgarner , darvish , kluber , J zimmermann
my bench i got
frazier , dozier , mesoraco , teheran , cobb , iwakuma , cobb , gray , allen , perkins , doolittle
No idea what to with all these keepers!
cheers
Justin
Hey Justin, I’m not really versed in 8-team leagues as candidly, I’ve never played in one. But, holy cow, that’s a ton for Trout. I wouldn’t do that, not even close in a 12 or 15 team league and can’t imagine doing it in an 8-teamer. That said, the league is so shallow that there will likely be potentially superstars on the waiver wire and have the best player as one of your 14 keepers…I get, but it’s just too much for me.
thank you sir.
bring on the boys of summer!
cheers
Hey Rich.
I’m wondering if I would be crazy to pick Ozhaino Albies over Franklin Baretto. Might actually have the opportuity to grab both of them.
Thanks!
Not crazy but I prefer Baretto.
I threw this out on Facebook and got a variety of responses. I’d love to have your take.
16 team. Keep 8. 6×6 Roto. Dynasty keeper forever.
Current team is:
Cole, Segura, C. Seager, Arenado, Bryant, Billy Hamilton, Betts, Pederson
I have Moncada and Russell as prospects.
Obviously building for future. I was offered:
McCutchen for Betts and Arenado
Would you make this deal? Again I’m not planning on being overly competitive this year.
Appreciate it as always
Yes.
First off thanks for the advice thus far…in my 6×6 10 man H2H OBP Dynasty league…I want to propose my Javier Baez and Dallas Keuchel for his Ben Revere and Cliff Lee…I’m loaded to the gills with young talent(Baez, Betts, Springer, Corey Seager, Addison Russell, JP Crawford, Carlos Rodon, Julio Urias) so I feel I can make Baez expendable…and feel I have a good shot to win this year as I took third last year…do you agree it’s a good move? If should also be known I’m punting power(HR, RBI) and focusing on H, R, SB, OBP…because I’m string enough pitching wise to win 3 cats every week..usually winning a week 7-5…long winded but want to give you all the info for your opinion. ..thanks!!
Straight up, I don’t like the deal as I still think Baez has a ton of upside and Lee; well, you have to be worried. Assuming he’s healthy though, he should be good for at least 2015. Revere is the prize in your strategy though and I believe, while I don’t like it straight-up, it should do what you need to it. So, I’m supportive.
Thanks sir!!! So all the reports I’ve read on Lee so far have been good..granted it’s like day 2…but assuming he’s healthy it’s fair to assume he will be superior to Keuchel in 2015 right? I understand long term I lose in this deal but if Lee can exceed Keuchel out put the bonus of revere in my punts like you said is the prize..
I’d be guessing on Lee and his health. Remember, he’s 36-years-old, so if you make the deal, temper your expectations as even if he’s healthy, he lives off perfect command and control and with diminished stuff, it could turn…
Roger that…thanks
